Paella and wine, one of our favourite Iberian combos. When it comes to pairing wine with paella, there can be a lot that you might think would complicate things - it’s a rich dish full of flavour, with a mix of seafood, meat, and vegetables all coming together in one big party.

So, what wines are up to the challenge? Don’t sweat it - here’s five wines that could pair well depending on what you’ve got in the mix.

Tempranillo

First up, we've got tempranillo, a classic Spanish red wine that's perfect for paella made with red meat like rabbit or chicken. It's got the body and supple tannins to stand up to handle that light protein without overwhelming the whole affair.

Albariño

If you're going for seafood paella, then albariño is your best bet. It has a crisp acidity and citrusy-saline flavours that pairs perfectly with shrimp, squid, and other seafood.

Garnacha

For paella with spicy chorizo sausage, look no further than garnacha, another Spanish red wine. It's got those bold, fruit-forward flavours that can hold their own against the heat.

Verdejo

If you're going vegetarian with your paella and loading it up with peppers and herbs like parsley, then verdejo is the way to go. Typically it has that bright, herbal flavour that compliments the dish perfectly.

Cava

Finally, we can't forget about Cava, the sparkling wine from Catalonia. It's a refreshing and versatile wine that can go with any type of paella, whether it's seafood, meat, or veggie.

As always though, you know your palette and what you enjoy best with food, so never be afraid to experiment - the joy is in the discovery. Speaking of which, check out our latest and greatest Spanish wines in stock here.
